Matthew 17:14-20

What is faith?

Faith has to be understood in the framework of relationship with God.

Teachers in the world talk about self-conviction: that we have to believe in ourselves in order to achieve more.

However, the Bible tells us that we must believe in God.

We believe that God is, God loves, and God can be found.

Faith is expressed in our prayer. Paul says that faith comes from hearing (Rome 10:17).

Faith comes from hearing. When we pray, we hear ourselves wishing for something.

And whatever we pray, if we are in God and our prayer pleases God, God promised to grant us our prayer.

Faith happens in our heart when we pray. So, faith grows according to our prayer life.

Today, Jesus rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith. Jesus was actually rebuking their lack of prayer life.

What does Jesus mean by moving the mountain?

Mountain symbolizes the problems in our lives that look impossible to solve.

We all have those problems. What can we do? We can pray with faith that is as small as a mustard seed.

Not many have great faith. When we pray, we also doubt. The mustard seed describes the reality of our faith,

how small it is.

But God is the One who listens to our prayer and works!

God is the One who moves the mountain.

All we have to do is to believe and pray.

Amen.
