Matthew 16

15 "But what about you?" he asked, "Who do you say I am?"

16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."

17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood,

but by my Father in heaven.

18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

1. What is the most important thing in our lives?

Among many things that we can think of, I would say family and friends.

By God's grace, we became God's family and friends.

Once we were created, and once we are saved, we are forever with God.

We have eternal life in Jesus.

Therefore, we are not temporary to one another.

I might leave this church at some point, we all know that.

However, I am not temporary to you just as you are not temporary to me.

We will spend eternity in heaven together, forever!

Therefore, let us not hold grudge against one another. That is really important.

We might hurt one another because we are not perfect.

We need forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the emphatic version of love.

Loving and liking is easy when the person is likable.

But when the person is evil, loving is not so easy.

That's when love needs an upgrade to have the capacity to forgive.

Jesus came to us to love us. However, we were sinners. We were too much to put up with.

What did Jesus do? Jesus forgave us. What it took to forgive us? Jesus had to sacrifice himself to

forgive us. Forgiveness is the most powerful form of love.

Jesus gave Peter the keys to heaven. What were those keys?

It was forgiveness. Binding in Aramaic means not forgiving. Loosing on the other hand means forgiving.

Jesus says to Peter, if you bind anyone on earth, that person will not be forgiven in heaven,

and if you loose anyone on earth, that person will be forgiven in heaven.

We ask if Hitler went to heaven.

It was actually up to the Christians at the time of Hitler.

Did they reach out to him to forgive him? BY Sharing the gospel of forgiveness?

It seems that they did not.

We must share the gospel of forgiveness with as many as we could.

It will take more than just liking those people. It takes sacrifices and self-denial.

It takes forgiveness.

Amen.
