Mark 12

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.

Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him,

"Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this:

'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

30 Love the Lord your God with all you heart and with all your soul

and with all your mind and with all your strength.'

31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

There is no commandment greater than these."

1. My mother used to say that I am the handsomest.

This is a universal truth. But it is true to my mother.

We live with a myth these days. We think that we are interacting with

everyone in the world. This myth is based on our experience on the web.

People's "likes" and their comments make us think that we are interacting with the world.

But that is not true. A few people in our lives who love us very subjectively

are the ones that matter. The question is, do we love them back?

2. Who is the one that loves me no matter what?

God is the one. God is the one who loves me the most despite

all my sins and imperfections.

The question is, do I love God back as much as God loves me?

3. God's unconditional love is poured upon our hearts

when we keep the first and greatest commandment: Love God.

This commandment is for us. Not for God. For us to be able to appreciate and

receive God's unconditional love for us.

4. When we receive this love, our self-esteem gets enhanced.

We get to like ourselves with God's love.

We get to love ourselves with God's love.

So that with the kind of love that l love myself

I might love others.

5. Therefore, loving God makes us love ourselves

and loving ourselves will help us love other people as we love ourselves.

6. You shall love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

For your own sake, and even for others' sake.

Amen.
