1 Samuel 3:8-10
8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
God called the boy Samuel.
Samuel was able to hear God's voice but did not recognize it as God's.
Eli, an experienced, old priest were not able to hear the voice of God.
Jesus said that the pure in heart will see God.
Eli's heart might have been tainted by the things that are not God,
while the boy Samuel's heart was pure enough to see God.
Are our hearts pure like Samuel's or tainted?
We must pray to God that God would keep our hearts pure so that we might hear the voice of God when God calls us.
